iCalendar Attachments not displaying correctly
de ? ? - Wednesday, 16 de January de 2013, 04:00

Hello

We have been finding an issue with the iCalendar attachments that are issued for Face to Face sessions.  They work well for those who use a Web Browser to access their emails, but we have many students using Thunderbird and the iCal attachment does not get to them, they receive an email that looks like it is full of code instead.

Has anyone else found this, and hopefully a solution to it?

Thanks

Scott

Hi John,

Yes we are aware of this but it is an Outlook limitation and not something we can fix, unfortunately.

There is a system setting to work around the Outlook problem. In 2.2:

Site Administration -> Plugins -> Activity modules -> Face-to-face - There is a section for iCalendar Attachments, and a checkbox setting to enable "One message per day"

This will send an individual iCal attachment for each day of a multi-day event.

Hope that helps.

Hi Scott,

Yes it looks like Thunderbird is not recognising the iCal as an attachment and just displaying the code as plain text. It seems this is a known Thunderbird issue:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=242937

Installing the free Lightning calendar extension for Thunderbird (Tools -> Add-ons) resolves the problem.

Hope that helps
