Totara and Oracle database

I would like to set up Totara on Oracle DB (our client on the latest project has Oracle DB).

When I tried Moodle 2.4 on Oracle DB I had significant performance issues.

Is Totara any different from Moodle 2.4 in this respect?

Hi Tomaz

I'm by no means a technical expert but I understand that Totara/Moodle have both been built to run with Postgress (sp?) and MySql DB.  I think you would need to re-write a lot of code to achieve what you are looking to do.

Hopefully someone else can give you more specific reasons/tips/suggestions etc.

James

Hi,

eventually we did not go on with Totara + Oracle, we stayed for now on mysql but still are open for our clients that use Oracle.

We have done the same as you mentioned on Moodle 2.2 and 2.4, but not on Oracel 10g - on Oracle 11g. The clob data was the biggest problem. We also implemented php accelerator, which we did not have at the beginning, add extra ram onm server, excluded some options on moodle settings etc, there were some better results but still sites with mysql are much faster.

Tom
