Custom course fields in v2.4 - making multiple selections

We are looking to have two custom fields when setting up courses that asks the course creator to identify from drop down menus which strategic priority the course supports and which capabilities the course will contribute to building. We need a pre-populated drop down list for each topic that allows for multiple selections eg: a course could support two of our four strategic priorities so the creator needs to be able to select two items. Looks like the 'Menu of choices' field is the only field allowing pre-populated drop down menu items but only seems to allow single item selection.

Ideally we'd like the course creator to add the info in a custom field (to enable reporting) and also for the info to populate in the area visible to learners so they know what strategic priorities and capabilities the course supports but I suspect we might not be able to get that.

Any thoughts on an alternative way of achieving this outcome? Looking forward to feedback. Thanks everyone.

Group Totara

Hi Fiona,

Currently I think the only way to achieve this would be to create one custom field for each item (maybe using a checkbox field), so if you have four strategic priorities you would need four custom fields.

We are planning on adding a multi-select custom field type but it won't be available until Totara 2.6 which is not going to be available for another six months.
