Thanks for the detailed information on this. You are right, something is definitely not right with the secondary position manager path, it should work the same way as the primary manager path does. We will file a bug and look into it. Since we have the original managerid we should be able to provide an upgrade script that fixes the issue for any existing installations.

Hi Oscar,
I have written a fix that will resolve this issue - assuming that it makes it through our code review without any problems it should be ready in the next release (2.5.3 due out on 10th December).
While testing I observed that it is possible for changes to the secondary position to affect the manager path of primary positions - the patch will do a database upgrade to fix all incorrect manager path values.

Just to let you know that Simon's patch was indeed included in yesterdays release of 2.5.3, updating should fix this issue for you.

A patch for this issue was also included in today's (27th May 2014) releases of Totara 2.2.29 and 2.4.20
