This is in regards to this Moodle bug: https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-27850

The bug pretty much explains the issue, here is the issue description from that bug report:

When a resource or activity is setup to auto-complete when opened or viewed (In new Window or Pop-up) by a user it does not update the status to completed for that activity until the page is refreshed. This causes any resources or activities that was then configure to only display once the previous activity or resource was completed not to display until the page is refreshed. We wanted the users to click or open these activities / resources and then only would the next course or test material be available. In this example I only used PDF files but on our site we use SCROM packages and additional "Restrict access conditions", e.g Require a certain mark in a previous test.

Wondering if Totara devs can speak to what possibility there might be of pushing this bug up in importance so that it can be included in 2.6 or even a back port to 2.5.

Also, looking for others in the Totara community who are affected by this, any workarounds or patches that might remedy the problem, etc.

Finally, putting out a request for anyone who might be willing to upvote this issue on the Moodle bug tracker - if this issue affects you it might be worth the effort.

Hi Jamie,

Unfortunately we don't have that sort of power over the Moodle dev team :-)

The best way to raise the priority of a Moodle bug is to vote for it on the Moodle tracker - there is a thumbs-up icon and Vote link in the top-right area of the bug report.

We'll file it as a known bug in our own Totara bug tracker too, as we might eventually fix it ourselves if there is no progress at all by the Moodle team. It would be interesting to know if the bug affects many Totara customers so we can prioritise it properly.

Hi Ciaran, thanks for your response! We have certainly upvoted the bug on moodle.org, and I encourage any other Totara subscribers to do the same if you are affected by this issue. If you use activity completions, and also use popup activities from the course page, then you may want to review the bug since it most likely affects your users' experience.

Since the use case in question required the Scorm window to pop up from the course page, bypassing the Scorm preview page, we developed a tiny customization to the Scorm popup, so that when the Scorm player window closes, it refreshes the parent page (the course page). This is just a few lines of javascript. This at least provides a workaround in the case of Scorm popup.

Hi Jamie,

We'd be interested in your custom solution if you want to share it back to Totara. That way it, or something similar, might end up back in Totara Core to benefit all the community, and possibly Moodle too :-)

Just email me with the code changes and we'll see if it is generic enough to include.

A fix for this issue was included in today's (18th Feb 2014) release of Totara 2.5.8

There's a patch in for 2.4 so hopefully it will be included in the next 2.4 release on the 11th March

A fix for this issue was included in today's (11th March 2014) release of Totara 2.4.18
