Learning Plan: how to skip the "Launch course" action?
by Eliana C - Wednesday, 28 November 2018, 11:51 AM

Hi,

When a user already has its course approved in the Learning Plan, how can he skip the "Launch course" button? The issue is that only after this action will the user become visible in course's "Enrolled users" list for further actions to be made on it by a staff manager.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Regards!

Hi Eliana,

In ordered to be enrolled into a course which appears in their learning plan user's must select the course, its kind of baked into the functionality. Can I ask what actions the staff manager needs to carry out?

cheers,

George.

Hi George,

Yes, users must select the course to add it to their LP, but after getting its approval they are not forced to click on the Launch Course button (and in fact they may not do it at all).

If they don't do it, they will not be listed as course's Enrolled Users and therefore a staff manager wont be able to see them in this list to add them to seminar's events (we are considering the Enrolled Users list as a list of pre-enrolled participants already approved to attend the course).

So it would be helpful to have a way in which the visibility of enrolled users would not depend on them clicking the Launch Course button on their LP page.

Any ideas? :-)

Eliana

Hi Eliana,

The problem here is the users are not enrolled until they Launch the course.

On what basis are the users assigned to the Learning plan? Users can be enrolled into courses by multiple methods - maybe there's a workaround.

cheers,

George.

Hi George,

We are using a Custom workflow for our LP, in which a Learner can add a course to a LP Template (e.g. Soft Skills) and then request its approval to his appraiser.

When getting this approval, the Learner sees the course on his Dashboard and also the Launch Course button next to the course link in the LP.

However, truth is that a Learner may not ever click the Launch Course button neither access the course itself. So, this Learner will not be listed at course Enrolled Users page for the Staff Manager (responsible for managing the course) to add him to a seminar.

We need the Learner to be listed/visible at course Enrolled Users page from the moment the appraiser approves his LP. Any ideas? :-)

Eliana

Hi Eliana,

I think it needs to be made clear to the user they need to launch the course in order to be enrolled into it. The standard text the user sees is:

'All the courses that form your learning plan are shown below. You can view any course by clicking the course title. Clicking "Add courses" will allow you to request to add new courses to this learning plan'.

How about editing the text in the Language pack so that the users know what is expected of them?

Something along the lines of 'To enrol in a course select "Launch course'; this will ensure you are booked to any upcoming Seminar events in time'.

cheers,

George.

Hi George,

This option had not occurred to me, although I have already made some modifications to the LangPack to better meet our needs.

Thank you very much for the suggestion!

Have a nice weekend!

Eliana
