Problem:
Its not possible to hide visible courses in the catalogue. This would be useful in the case of courses being used for purposes other than learning, for example a site-wide community.
Solution:
Enable the ability for site admins to decide which courses appear in the catalogue or not.
I find this suggestion very useful, a couple of our clients would be happy to have this feature. :)

we have a course category which contains all courses that are currently under development and another which contains courses that have been archived. It would be really great, if we can hide all courses from these category from the catalogue, in bulk, to avoid confusion about the course status.
Also, some courses are just not "courses" for learning, but more like a collection of documents. We would like to link to these courses, e.g. from dashboards, but again, they should not show in the catalogue. The option to hide them one-by-one would be great.
Audience-visibility settings etc. should still apply for courses hidden from the catalogue, i.e. learners should still be able to access these courses, e.g. via a link in the record of learning, they just should not show on the catalogue/search page.

We use some courses to share information e.g. site wide glossary of terms, short FAQs, etc.
We give access to these courses directly on the main menu.
Though we don't use the course catalgoue yet, we intend to use it in a near future and having the option to hide a course on the catalogue will be excellent for us.

I would also like the ability to hide courses from the catalogue. We use course pages as site libraries, so the course needs to show for learners to access the resources, but we don't want the course to appear in the catalogue as it's not a "course".

Rather than using courses as 'site libraries' you could use dashboards which would not show in the catalogue.

Bump! - We can hide from totara catalogue at a granular course level but visible courses within hidden folders still show
+1 from us as well. We have a course category in which we register all external courses. It would be great to hide these from the library.
