Subtitles on videos

Hi, I have recently received feedback from a member of staff who has some hearing problems and uses a hearing device. Background noise is a big factor as it is picked up an enhanced making it difficult for that person to hear the relevant dialogue. Is it possible to perhaps add subtitles into the videos or any other way to counter this so they can gain the full benefits of the videos?

Hi Imran,

A couple of recommendations. Do you host your videos in Totara or through another provider? In the Academy, for example, we host our videos through Youtube which gives us the option to add closed captions. It can autocaption as well, but we find putting our own transcript in to be much more accurate. We also upload a separate transcript as well in PDF, which is great for a read through and quick reviews of information, but captions tend to be more useful when they're right in the video.

I'm sure other folks have helpful ideas about how they make content accessible as well.

Cheers!

Wes
