pre and post course questionniare

Has anyone created a pre and post course questionniare (and in what activity) where it can be shown (anaylised) that the user has/or not benefitted from the course through displaying the results side by side please.

So basically completing in the same activity twice once at the beginning of the course and again at the end

I think it's not too hard to accomplish this - it's just probably a little bit more manual than you were hoping. Your course would probably look like:

Pre-test (Quiz activity)
Content
- Restricted until user completes pre-test
Post-test (copy of pre-test)
- Restricted until user completes content

Then you can go into the pre/post test quiz activities and pull the reports and compare them (probably in Excel)

The only way I can think of to do it natively in Totara would be setting the Pre-test/content/Post-test as separate courses in part of a program. Then if the course grade = the quiz grade you would be able to pull a course completion report and be able to see the user's scores on both courses
