Totara for user-driven continuing professional development

Hi! We are currently thinking of moving our continuing professional development (CPD) programme onto Totara 12. We believe Totara is the right platform for our 4000 users, however, we do have a few concerns. First, the CPD programme is not a structured learning programme. We do have a few compulsory components they have to complete, but most of the time, users will decide which activity they want to learn and record into their CPD portfolio. Second, we do not create any courses, all the learning activities are provided by external providers, and most of them are not online learning (eg., conference, workshop).

Just would love to know if there is any good examples of using Totara 12 to support such kind of learning programme? We really appreciated some demos if possible.

Thank you!

Hi Anya,

Thanks for your query.

I'll address your concerns one-by-one.

First, the CPD programme is not a structured learning programme.

There are a couple of routes you can take here in Totara using a mix of mandatory and optional courses within Learning plans or Programs & Certifications. You can also use a mix of online courseware and offline instructor-led training with blended learning.

Second, we do not create any courses, all the learning activities are provided by external providers, and most of them are not online learning (eg., conference, workshop).

Totara is compatible with most contemporary online course formats, and we offer integrated access to an extensive range of free and paid-for learning content from trusted content partners (such as GO1).

We also have an extensive suite of Seminar Management functionality which enables admins & Trainers to create, manage and report upon in-person/classroom based events and build a blended training delivery into learning programs. We have subscribers with 250,000 users who make use of this functionality.

Its also possible to possible to upload external evidence to combine online and offline learning.

We have video available on Seminars, Learning Plans and Programs & Certifications.

We have cast studies here you might want to consider, and we also have a cloud option.

I think also it would be worthwhile looking at our Asia-Pacific partner directory, they've got the experience and know-how to fully address your particular set-up, and can offer expert advice on installation and migration.

If you have any further questions please feel free to let us know.

cheers!

George.

Hi Anya

In addition to what George has outlined - if your courses are worth different amounts of CPD time then programs allow you to add a course score field and create a course set that is completed based on the total value of completed courses
