Learner's Unenrol but Course still showing on their Record of Learning

We have some instances where learners have unenrolled themselves from a course but the course still shows on their Record of Learning (progress is showing as 0% complete). I'm unclear what setting is causing this to happen.

I would just like to understand why the course isn't being removed from their record of learning. When I look at the individual in the completion editor for the course it shows their status is In Progress.

We also have some instances where the Unenrol option isn't available at all.

Any advice would be appreciated, we have recently upgraded to Version 12.

When you go to the course and go to the enrolled user list are they still on the list? Could they be enrolled in multiple ways? If so, you may need to manually unenroll them in addition to them unenrolling themselves.

We have had a few users that were enrolled using multiple methods which requires a bit of clean up on the back end.

Thanks Teri, I've had a look and was hopeful your suggestion was correct, unfortunately they don't appear to have enrolled another way. They actually don't even appear on the user list (they have unenrolled themselves) but it is still on their Record of Learning.

Hi Libby,

Yes we did fix the issue, the problem was caused by having the Course Setting "Mark as in Progress on first view' ticked (which is under Completion Tracking). By unticking that when users unenrolled it also removed the course from their record of learning. It was some time ago we realised this was the issue, I think it only fixed it going forward and I may have had to manually remove the courses that were 'stuck' on users' records.

I believe this is because the user still has a "completion record", which is separate to the enrolment.
On a course, go to "Completion editor" in the Admin block, find the user in question, and select "Edit course completion".
An admin message appears in a box at the top of this page stating something like "This user is no longer enrolled, do you want to delete their completion record?" and then a link that you can click to perform the delete action.

Doing this should clear the course from their record, however it will also delete any progress they have made on the course (which in your case, may just be an "in progress" status update).
If, at a later date, the user re-enrols they will have to start the course again from the beginning.
