Totara LP and SCORM 1.2 conflict (plus course grades not tracking)

Hi. I'm trying to investigate an issue that one of our companies is having with a Totara LP instance and uploading SCORM 1.2 content. I've just started at our main company and getting to the detail of our LMS versions, instances and tenants. We have a number of companies that use slightly different versions.

Can anyone let me know of any issues in moving from SCORM 2004 to SCORM 1.2 with Totara LP?

We've used SCORM 2004 content with Totara LP with no issues and specifically relating to tracking completion. When moving to 1.2, there appears to be a conflict in tracking grades and completions.

We're also trying to enable first and second attempts in one package for grading purposes.

So, if a learner fails at the first attempt, they can re-take in the same e-learning module. The learner is able to re-take the assessment currently but this does not parse to the LMS and still records a fail even if they have passed at the second attempt.

Similarly, a 100% pass mark does not always parse back to the LMS.

I can't see this being limited functionality in Totara LMS or the need to split the content and assessment into 2 separate packages (which is not ideal). I'm not even sure it's a conflict between 1.2 and the LMS.

I think it relates to the conditions and lack of sequenced checking by the creator or ID in setting the conditions at course and activity level but really not sure.

So, 1. Does anyone know of any conflicts between 1.2 and Totara LP (and benefits for moving to 1.2) and, 2. Can anyone advise on the best way to set up the e-learning modules for grades (and re-attempts) tracking from one e-learning module using Totara LP and SCORM 1.2?

Thanks for any help or support that you can give.

Rachel

Hi Rachel

SCORM 1.2 supports the SCORM 2004 standard except for the following areas

  • Content Aggregation Model
  • The Run-Time Environment
  • Sequencing and Navigation

It sounds like the SCORM 2004 you have may be using these. If you have access to the original content in the authoring package then you could republish the package with the authoring tool to SCORM 1.2

Information is only passed one way from the SCORM to the LMS so what ever grades or status are passed to the LMS is what is used to judge whether the activity is completed. When a SCORM activity is submitted then this is an attempt - it is also possible to save progress in an attempt to restart this.

There are various settings for attempts and for troubleshooting SCORMS that may be helpful
