Course Upload - increment shortname

When uploading courses, under Upload Mode, I found a choice for "Create all, increment shortname if needed" (see attachment). Can anyone tell me what this option means and what the effect of choosing it would be?

Hi Carol

This setting means a new course is created even if the same shortname exists .

The new course will have a shortname with a numbers added to it , For example if the shortname testcourse exists and the file contains this then the course will be added as testcourse1

I don't know the history of why but someone with a lot of courses with similar short names may not be aware of existing shortnames and want to safeguard existing courses being updated by mistake.
