Course vs Program due date : possible conflicts ?

Hi,

Bringing due dates at course level in V16 was a real time-saver for several of our customers.

However, they also use programs with relative due dates.

What are the consequences of adding a course with a relative due date of e.g. 60 days to a program with a relative due date of 30 days since enrollment ?

We created tests. No exception reports were created and we don't know how automated notifications are being handled by the system.

Could you give us some details ?

Thanks!

Djamileh

Hi Djamileh,

The Course due date is for completing the course only, the Program due date is for completing the course in the context of the Program. Theyre kind of two seperate criteria, but if the course wasn't available to be completed within the terms of the program then you'd probably have problems.

If you've any other queries please just ask!

cheers,

George.

Hi Djamileh

The course due date only affects course due date notifications it doesn't have an effect on the due dates in programs.

Course due dates aren't required if the course is part of a program - you can include them but the only affect they would have is for sending out the course dues date nitrification.  This could be confusing is a program due date is also sent out.

Hello,

Thank you both.

This is exactly what would be problematic for our client.

On the one hand, some users would be enrolled directly into the course, so they need a due date for this group. On the other hand, the same course could be part of a more global program with another due date.

To avoid side effects and confusion notifications at the program and at the course level, I will recommend that they duplicate courses that are part of the program and remove any notifications at course level.

Thank you,

Djamileh
