I was hoping someone could share how they set up the manager approvals in their organisation. I'm interested in the UX side of things.

We have the Tasks block on the dashboard so managers can approve/decline seminar requests from there. The email notifications for seminar requests also include [attendeeslink] placeholder, so if the manager clicks the link, it takes them to the approvals screen:

But if the manager approves from that screen and later visits their dashboard, they still see a notification in the Tasks block. They get an error message if they attempt to approve (something about the status that can't be changed)

- Has anyone been able to make the tasks actioned from the "Approval Required" tab disappear from the Tasks block?

- Do people choose not to share the link to the "Approval Required" tab and just direct managers to their Tasks block?

Hi Natalia

It  is possible in central;ised notifications to channel the delivery channel for each notification.. Seminars were added to centralised notifications in Totara 16 before that it is only possible to doable the task notification for all task notifications under default message outputs

Thank you, Craig!

Good to know that with the centralised notifications there'll be more control (we're still on v15 but might be upgrading to v17 at the end of the year, I heard).

I'm not so fussed about the notification mode: I think the Tasks block works quite well. Our users don't like that the notification persists in the Tasks block even after the request has been approved. I've found this feature improvement from a while back: TL-19159 - No clear message to manager/approver that approval decision has already been made

That enhancement introduced a clear message "Approval request has already been approved/rejected".

Is it possible to configure the system so that a manager won't ever see this message; if they (or another user) approve a request, we'd like the notification to disappear from their Tasks block. Does it work like that in versions newer than 15?
