Turnitin plugin

Hi,

We were using Turnitin plugin on our Totara v12 and we decided to use another assessment platform with another plagiarism checker.

We didn't turn off the Turnitin plugin as we are worry that we will lose the score data that is still currently visible on the Totara course pages (it is not accessible but the plagiarism score is still visible). Now, whenever we want to create a forum or assessment, it always pop up the below error which makes sense.

turnitintooltwo/Turnitin Class creation failed
Message: API product inactive or expired

Does anyone know how we can get rid of this error without turning off the Turnitin plugin? Or does anyone know if the Turnitin score will still be visible if we turn off the plugin?

Thanks
Jennifer

I haven't had much experience with Turnitin in Totara, but I assume it's similar to Moodle integration. I thought it only creates a Turnitin class if you enable it.

Does the error persist even if you select No for Use Turnitin in the assignment settings?

Hi Natalia,

Yes, so we have a course that has a forum with Turnitin disabled and when we back up and restore the course, the forum is working for user but when we want to edit the settings, the error pops up even though the forum has Turnitin disabled. I also tested a few things:

  1. Adding a new forum to the restored course, same error pops up when creating.

  2. Did not include the forum when back up, restore to a new course then create a new forum, same error pops up.

  3. Creating a new forum in another old course, no error…

It seems a bit random to me…Also, the course does not even have a Turnitin activity or assignment activity.

Hm, yes, I agree, that seems a bit random.

Do you restore the course with user data or without? What happens if you copy/restore without user data?

Also, I think there's a setting in the Turnitin plugin that allows it to be used in assignments, forums etc (that's plugin configuration setting in site administration). Maybe you could switch off its use for forums? I'd also check if Turnitin is off by default (that's also in the plugin configs).
