Programs - Problems with Visibility / Enrolled Audiences

Hello!

When I enroll someone in a Program, my expectation is that the Program tile will appear in their Current Learning and, upon selecting it, the user will be able to launch each course, according to how I have structured the sets of courses.

Instead, I get these results (Scenario #1):

  • When the user selects a Course that they should have access to within the structure of the Course Sets, it fails to launch, saying it is not available to learners.

Or, instead, I get these results (Scenario #2):

  • The Courses that are part of the Program also appear as individual Course tiles under Current Learning, and the user is able to launch any of them, thereby circumventing the access restrictions I set between the Course Sets in the Program.

  • If they select the Program tile, the access restrictions between the Course Sets also isn't being applied.

I've been going around in circles, trying different combinations of Visibility and Enrolled Audiences for the Courses within the Program, and nothing I'm doing is working.

What is it that I need to be doing?!

With thanks,

Brie

Hi Brie

For Scenario #1, have you enabled programme enrolment on the course page (under Users / Enrolment methods)? The issue we have found here is that this circumvents hidden course category restrictions so if you were moving the course to a hidden category you would need to remove this.

For Scenario #2, if users have previously been enrolled in courses they will be available without the program set restrictions, or like you say if they go to the course page outside of the program and auto enrol, this will circumvent the restrictions. I guess you could remove preview access or auto enrolment but if you want other users (outside of program access) to also see/enrol in the course, this will cause issues with that.

We have found program enrolment to be a bit problematic in the past.

Hope that helps though.

Jane

Just a clarification - on further reflection in Scenario #1 it was using the program enrolment method that may overrides the course visibility settings (so not hidden categories). We had a course page visibility = No users but the course was listed on the program (as 'Coming soon'), and the learners could access it. We had to hide the Program enrolment method so they could not access the course.

Hopefully this makes sense.
