Course Creator System Role - No Add a new course button

Hi,

I've noticed after updating to V1.1, the users who have a Course Creator Sytem role aren't seeing the "Add a new course" button - and therefore not able to add new courses.

I tried following the steps on the help site:

Create a new Course Page

Course pages are set up in the same way for trainer led courses as they are for online courses.

Click Courses in the site administration menu
Click Manage Courses
Choose the category you want you course to sit in (this can be changed later)
Click Add a new course
Complete the Course settings
Click Save Changes.

But can't get past step 4 as the button isn't showing.

Do I need to adjust settings in the permissions? At the moment Course Creator is still using default role settings...

Hi Ira,

That seems to be a bug. I've been able to reproduce it - we'll take a look and get a fix as soon as possible.

The setting that needs to be changed for the course creator role is course:create

Select Site Admin > Permissions > Define roles

Do a search for course:create - its under under course categories and set to allow.

The editing trainer role (course creator) doesn't look like it has this as the default.

The demoadmin role on demo.totaralms.com site sounds as though this is close to the course creator role you have so you can have a look at using these settings and adjust if required.

Hi Sonia,

The only other workaround I can think of is to get the staff member to go directly to the add course page, which is at:

[site url]/course/edit.php?category=1

they should still have access to that page, even if the button isn't appearing. If you want them to add a course to a different category then put a different category id instead of 1.

This is a pretty major bug though so we'll try and get a fix as soon as possible!

Hi Sonia

I looked at the demoadmin role on the demo site and this does have the adding of courses button.

The role permissions setting required in addition to the allow course:edit is

category:manage set to allow

I tried this on the demo site which is using v1.1.2 and the add new course button appears.

Hi,

Yes i agree with you Alastair, Sytem wide course creators shouldn't need to create and control catgeories - just be able to create courses in existing categories...

Also wondering if program management/creation will have the same issues as course creation...
