Hi there,
Is it possible to make the front page viewable without having to login, or sign in as a guest. If the user then clicks on any link in the menu then they are prompted to login.
Im pretty new to Totara, so there might be a few more questions to come.

Yes this is possible - when you go to the totara.community without logging in you see the frontpage and clicking on a link will require you to login.
You can set up content for the frontpage by logging in as admin and select Turn editing on to change content.
To change settings for the frontpage select Site Admin > Front page > Front page settings. This allows you to change the content for logged on or non logged on users.

Just to add you also need to uncheck "Force users to login" on the site polices page.
Admin -> Security -> Site Policies
This will then allow users to view the front page of totara without needing to login.

Yes that is exactly what we want. All we have on the Front page is a label with some writing and an image.
The URL is www.skills4work.ac.nz
As you will see, when you go to that address it prompts you automatically to login.
I dont see an option under Site Admin > Front page > Front page settings that allows you to turn it off.
The only way i found around that was going into Authentication and adding the login as guest button which allowed you to then see the Front page. But we would like it like totara.community and you dont need to make that extra click.

Richard's post about using site policies (Site admin > Security > Site Policies) and unticking force users to login should work - there are also a few other settings around logging in available here.
