Restrticting Category / Course Access...

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to restrict category / course access so that a certain Learner can only access certain course(s). The restricted Learner shouldn't be able to see the contents, or ideally even the course names, of courses they don’t have access to. All other Learners should be able to browse the full course catalogue and ‘Find’ courses etc.

I used to be able to do this in Moodle / Totara 1.x via roles & configuration though I can’t seem to do it in M / T 2.x :-(

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi Tony,

Could you let me know how you set up 1.1 to do this in a bit more detail and we will look at how to replicate it in 2.x?

Hi both,

I too am wanting to restrict access for some of our courses. We have 4 divisions and I would like to make some of the content only accessible by 1 division.

We are currently using 2.2.20.

Hi George,

Previously in T1.1, I created a new role (which I assigned to a Learner) and assigned this role at the course-level where I over-rode the capability ‘course:view’ (this capability has a different meaning in Moodle 2) to ‘prevent’ the role from viewing the courses I didn’t want the role to access.

I appreciate that the underlying Moodle functionality has changed, I’m just not sure how the clients requirement can be met without development. Any ideas you have would be greatly received!

Hi All,

A quick update T2.5 (due for realease Sept / Oct) will have some functionality which extends audience management to include 'Visibility of Content', which will enable meet the requirment of controlling the visibility of specificed Courses (and maybe categories??).

I'm still interested if there are options for T2.2!
