Morena all :)

We have a problem in one of our courses (and have experienced it intermittently on other courses) where there are clearly spaces available but learners are told they don't have permission to sign up for the seminar event.


I have checked

* they're not already booked for this seminar

* the course is visible to them - they're in the visible audience and can get to the course bookings page but can't book

* they have managers assigned in the system

* they have been able to sign up for seminars on other courses

This particular seminar event has 3 spaces available but 4 people waiting on manager approval to confirm their booking. Could this be causing the problem? Keen to hear anyone's thoughts or experiences!

Hi Jo,

It sounds like you're on the right track with the Manager needing to approve/deny the held seats to release them.

Can you take a screenshot of the error and let us know the version you are using? I'm curious as it should be popping those folks onto the waitlist (if waitlisting is enabled) rather than giving an error.

Hi Wesley

The waitlist is not enabled for the effected course so that may be part of the problem. I can't recreate the error due to my super powers in our Totara system. will come back with screen shots if it happens again :)

Good thinking Larry but there is no waitlist enabled on this course.

The system shows there is 1 space available, but there are 3 people awaiting manager approval. Could this be what's stopping other people booking?


If so it's odd this is only effecting some courses.

I don;t think people awaiting approval would have an effect.

That error message definitely suggestes something permission related.

I take it the people singing up have that permission in their profile?

Here's someone from last year having the same issue as you

There's no reply but you could check with them and see if they ever got to the bottom of it.
