Problem definition

Staff managers may be required to enrol their staff into courses as manager approval is required before staff can be enrolled. Allowing the permission to enrol users to the staff manager role provides the staff manager the ability to only enrol staff they are responsible for into courses.

Suggested solution

Add an approval process similar to the seminar activity where spaces can be reserved and allocated by a manager

Managers may be required to enroll their team members (or staff) into courses as manager approval is required. Allowing the permission to enroll users to the manager role provides the manager the ability to enroll only their team members (not the ones they are not responsible for) into courses. They should not be able to enroll just any person in the organization, just the ones of their own team.

You could add an approval process on a course level similar to the seminar activity where spaces can be reserved and allocated by a manager for his team. I was just wondering: would another possible solution be that the roles/ rights of a manager can be adapted? Or the visibility of the list of users they see, so that only their team members pop up in the list of people they can enroll for the course?

The approval workflow process (currently at the Seminar activity) option should be applied to all learning objects. eLearning, Blended as well as Programs and Certifications. The system should manage approval workflows consistently across all learning objects. THANK YOU!

This was a requirement in a tender we won during the fall. We are currently developing this, with the ability for managers to enroll their staff to courses, hybrids/seminars and programs.

Are you developing an approval workflow plugin for this .

Approval workflows can be enabled in Totara and this allows the development of custom forms and approval workflows with notifications triggers.
