Hello,

Can anyone help with this please? 


We're trying to set one of our courses to report on the last completed attempt. The course page contains a SCORM package.

We've used the following settings (see screen grab):

E-learning > edit settings > Attempts management : Last completed attempt


However, the results are inconsistent.

We've tested 3 x different courses with these settings. 

Two have failed to record the last completed attempt.

One did successfully record the last attempt 

We then backed up and restored the successful course and tested the cloned course but found the cloned course does not now record the last attempt. No settings were changed.

As far as we can tell Both Scorm and Course page settings are the same for all the courses we are testing.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

What settings should we be looking at that may be stopping " last completed attempt" from behaving as expected?

Hi Paul,

Apologies for not getting back to you promptly, although to be fair this isn't an offical support channel but a discussion forum. There could be any number of issues here, I'd hazard a guess and say looks pretty like could it be the 'Completed attempt' criteria.

Is this still happening? If so could you submit a Support ticket with full replication steps & a copy of the SCORM?

Hi Paul,

Have you seen this in SCORM troubleshooting?

Handling of Multiple Attempts

It has this part, "If cmi.core.lesson_status is set to 'incomplete', 'browsed' or 'notattempted' the learner can only re-enter the existing attempt."

I was having the same sort of issue because learners were always entering the existing attempt and were never starting a new one.

If that makes sense.

Thanks for this. We did note this at the time but were unable to resolve it.

When a SCORM sets the cmi.core.lesson_status value to 'completed', 'passed' or 'failed' then Totara allows the user to create a new attempt by adding a Start new attempt checkbox to the entry page. If cmi.core.lesson_status is set to 'incomplete', 'browsed' or 'notattempted' the learner can only re-enter the existing attempt. 


Out of interest how did you change the Scorm setting cmi.core.lesson_status value ?

I checked:

  1. the SCORM reports to see if learners attempts were sitting at incomplete
  2. what the SCORM was sending in the logs as a completion, passed or completed
  3. that the activity completion set for the SCORM activity was the same, passed or completed

Once I had that all set up I tested the SCORM activity to make sure the attempts were completing as expected.
