Hi Eason

There is some documentation that outlines some of the limitations of Global search.

Full text searching in the catalogue was introduced to overcome some of the limitations

What are the reasons you are wanting to use global search and do the limitations affect the choice?

My problem is: the global search engine Solr.
When i used it to search some keywords in courses, Solr did not feedbak any searching result unless the course i have enroled. This logic is very confuse me that i must go to 'Find Learning' if i want to find some courses with the keywords, It is mean that Global Search Solr engine could not do it.

Hi Eason

The global search engine SOLR does work with Totara - configuring this on the web server is tricky and this does have some limitations including not searching courses not having enrolment records. The global search is more suitable for searching the content in activities such as text , pdf , or word files

If you are wanting to search courses through key words then we recommend the course catalogue allows full text searches this and allows searches by tags, course description content and course metadata to help locate the relevant course.
