We have multiple customers who use different login methods for different kinds of users.

EX: Saml2 (imported via HR Sync) For Internal users, Email-based self registration for consultants and Oauth2 (with account creation) for other external users. 

Sometimes a user will move from beeing extrenal to internal and a new account will be created by HR Sync. Or an internal user by mistake uses the Oauth2 login (where their email might be different). Leading the user to have two accounts.

We have thought of building this function ourselves but would definiteley prefer if it was done centrally

+1 here too. We have very similar issues.

Here at Catalyst, we've occasionally used the moodle plugin tool_mergeusers to do this in Totara: https://moodle.org/plugins/tool_mergeusers

Usually we warn the client that it will only migrate "course-level" content, but quite often we find that sufficient for some clients needs.

We were looking at how to 'merge' users a few years ago - and the mergeusers tool that Dan has mentioned was discussed - but we were advised there could be issues with how this impacts Certifications and Programs, which we use heavily!

The work-around is a weekly process where we do an ol' switcheroo on their username/IDs between their old and new accounts - which is working successfully for us. We have users that convert from contractors to direct-employees - which is where this comes into play.

Would still love to see a more robust version of this process though!

+1 from us, merging accounts can be problematic and time consuming so having this automated would be great including all learning as well as any future bookings which are present on the account.

We're supporting this request too.  We too have issues with duplicate accounts, and the ability to merge users and their training records would be a massive improvement in managing the system.

+1 here. We have a custom solution designed by our support team however a base function to merge accounts and the enrollments / completions, including being able to select what should merge over and keeping a log of what was merged would be very helpful.

👍 from us too, it would also be great if it would check if either of the accounts have future bookings and retain these as part of the merge process.
