Using badges to add learners to an audience
by Helen Dudley - Tuesday, 14 March 2023, 1:29 AM

Hi everyone

There are multiple ways to add a learner to an audience - except for badge awarding.  I need to use badges to award skills/competencies (we are on Learn so can't use competencies plus we're a tenant) and then I want to use the badge awarding to add a learner to a specific audience.

Has anyone done this or have a work around that is easy to use?

Many thanks

Hi Helen.

What is the criteria for receiving the badge?

Hi Nathan

Badges are awarded upon receipt of a signed assessment sheet.  For example, a learner demonstrates they can successfully carry out a medical procedure, the assessment form is signed off and sent to the LMS team who will then award the badge.  There is no course or progamme that is required to be completed.

Hi Helen.

One possibility is to create a set audience (as opposed to dynamic) in which your LMS team manually add learners when they have demonstrated they can successfully carry out the medical procedure, then automatically award the badge based on membership in the audience (requires adding another badge criteria, takes less than a minute to set up). This audience can then also be used elsewhere, including as a criteria for one or more other dynamic audiences (e.g. user is member of dyn-aud-1 if they are in set-aud-badge-1 AND/OR <some other criteria>).

Hi Nathan

Great work around.  This fits the bill perfectly.  Thanks for the suggestion.
